Perhaps there's something wrong with me. I'm sure that I'm disappointing not just all my friends of a geeky variety, but my father too. But I just don't seem to fit with them on this.

I grew up with a ton of comic books around the house; I used to read through my dad's collection of them long into the night. I like superheros. I'm not manically excited by them, but I think they're pretty cool. I love Spider Man and the Fantastic Four and Doctor Strange and bunches of others. And I see just about my entire friends list going on and on about how great the Iron Man movie is. But I just have little or no interest in seeing it. Maybe I'm a mutant; maybe that gene transmuted into a love of climbing around abandoned buildings with flashlights and climbing ropes and.... Wait a minute. That's it! The superhero gene, when not expressed fully, transmutes into a wannabe ninja gene!!

But you know, I think I would go see a Doctor Strange movie, now that I mention him....

I always liked Iron Man as a contrast to Batman - they are both men seeking to redeem their pasts but Tony Stark takes a totally different approach, one that seems to embrace life and the joy of living in a way that Batman is too tormented to do.

That's a neat way of looking at him; I hadn't considered that. Thanks!

You are welcome.

The more work I put into making my life something I truly want to live, the more stuff like Iron Man resonates over the darker stuff I used to prefer. I still can't wait to see Dark Knight Returns, of course, but my life isn't controlled by other people anymore - I don't have to hide in dark places anymore.

And so, I squee about Iron Man.

I can relate to that. I used to really into Nirvana. That was when I had no friends and was rather depressed. I still appreciate the ideas they were expressing, and listen to it from time to time, but I'm in a better place now mentally, and that's a good thing.

I don't have that superhero gene.. but neither do I have the wannabe-ninja gene, though I've had several people call me a ninja. Who knows?

On an unrelated note, and I'm not sure if this will get to you before said event, but what's the best time to head over there today? I just realised, that I've never seen anything on a time. I'll call if I don't see a response by noon-ish.

We're really starting around 6ish. Knowing how people are though, who knows how many we'll actually have right at 6. *grins* Earlier might be ok though. I'll give you a call and let you know maybe. But if you don't hear, come on over at 6.

Back to the original topic . . . I am by no stretch of the imagination a super-hero fanatic. I LOVED the Iron Man movie. It didn't feel like a super-hero movie, really. It was a movie about a man who discovered the harm his technology was doing and decided to change that. It was really nicely done, with some good bits of humor. I loved Stark's lab robot that kept squirting him with fire-retardant chemicals at inappropriate times.

I think you would enjoy it.

I want to see IronMan more for the fact that I love Robert Downey Jr., than the fact that it's another comic book super hero. I can't recall ever seeing a movie of his that I didn't like.
