Current mood: tired

There is enough to do here and the stacks of unorganized paperwork are high enough that I'm giving up on the title search for the truck. I'm just going to stop at the DMV on the way to Milwaukee tomorrow and get a replacement title. I've printed out the form and will fill it out tonight.

I cleaned out the truck this evening, after stopping at [info]posicat's place on the way home for an hour or two, even though we'll get together tomorrow after work for the usual coffee gathering. I feel bad that I don't get to see him as much as I'd like so we talked for a while about the VoIP box he was hacking and his car.

In the truck, I found a Sock Dreams gift certificate for Andrea, some of my clothes, bouncy balls (I don't know why, but I keep collecting bouncing balls from those coin-op vending machines. I like them.), my copy of Einstein's Dreams that I bought at a thrift store and never managed to read, and, in the bed, a large box full of now-rusty server hard drives, not to mention a few case fans, some SCSI controllers, laptop power cords, and a pack of three big batteries from a UPS. My truck was where old tech went to die, apparently. I'm trying to keep my Aveo cleaner. Well, except for all the fur in what I've taken to calling 'the dog den' that's formed when I fold the seats all the way up.

Tomorrow I'll be removing my compass from the windshield, unbolting and disconnecting my CB radio and weather radio/police scanner for later installation in the Aveo, and pulling the antenna cables out from where I tucked them so I can stick my antennae in the garage 'till I figure out the best way to mount them on a vehicle that I actually have reason to worry about the paint on. Then on Saturday, on the way to [info]sabrinageek's place, she'll be put out to pasture.

Camping on Memorial Day weekend with Posi sounds like it's probably out. Posi pointed out that it's still a bit cold, and that campgrounds would be packed. I guess I could go to RCFM with folks, but I'm actually not that interested. I'm kind of wavering between driving up to the Michigan northern peninsula to investigate abandoned mining towns (which I'd better start researching soon if I'm serious; [info]vandringar, would you be willing to offer any advice or tips if I send you an email?) and working on cleaning house. I know which I should probably be doing, but the idea of driving around the UP in my little car with a tent, a dog, some food, and some camera gear is really appealing to me.... Maybe I'd even rent a lens for the trip.

Andrea is nervous about me going by myself. [info]akreaveter, any interest in coming with? Anybody else? It's tentative at this point, but let me know if you think it sounds like fun. I'll cover gas since I'd be going anyway, but help with food and such would be appreciated. I'm planning to bring a bunch of sandwich fixings and other road food, and I may be able to dig my camp stove up at my parents house for making hot stuff.

*nodnod* That's that city where they make all the beer and stuff. There's a zoo or something there too. *giggles*

I'm taking Andrea up there for a trip she needs to make.

You should go somewhere. Not that I want to get rid of you, but the idea of having a few days to go through all of those projects that I need to take care of (disposing of things from the basement, cleaning my closet, etc) is very appealing. If you're around, I'll never get around to doing them (as shown by the fact that I HAVEN'T done them). We can talk on the road this afternoon.

If this next month weren't already jam packed I'd SO love to go road-triping to the UP with you. I've never been and think it would make for great fun... and I might even learn a little about photography!!
*hugs*

I don't know that I really know that much about photography either! *laughs* But I'm trying to get better at it.

I've only been through the UP once; Andrea and I, on one of our trips from Detroit to see my parents and family, decided to drive north through Michigan and over the Mackinaw bridge and around the lake, down through the UP and northern Wisconsin. I have a whole bunch of photos from the trip; it was neat. The UP is pretty country and I'd really like to see more of it. I understand there are a lot of fantastic turn of the century era ruins.

Sorry you're busy. Maybe if that trip I keep thinking about down to Florida to see a shuttle launch ever comes together.... *grins*

LOL
Hey - I'm all about road-trips!
If I can swing the time off and people don't mind my company, I'm there!

Yeah; I love taking long car trips. Hate, hate, hate driving an hour one way to work every day, but I like long car trips and seeing new things.

For some reason, when I think of you camping alone in abandoned mining towns with a dog, I think zombies, in a rather I Am Legend kind of way :)

*laughs* I see the opportunity there for a good horror setting indeed!

That said, in the event of a zombie attack, or other catastrophic country-wide event, have I mentioned that [info]posicat already has a fairly fleshed out plan to collect people in Savannah, Illinois to rebuild civilization? He's even created a PDF format printable brochure with information about it.

Hmm, I'll have to bear that in mind should the End Times come. I can cook and brew, and Holly can sew and knit ;)

Do you and [info]murstein make beer together? Didn't know you did it too. I need to brush up on my smithwork too.

He got me into it and showed me how to make my first batch. I've made a couple of batches of cider since then, and sometime soon I'm going to have a go at a stout :)

Until you've started with grain, and ended up with the beer, you're not a Real Survival Brewer. 0:-)

I'm almost a Real Survival Brewer. I normally start with barley that someone else malted. Some day, I need to start by by malting the barley.

Hey, drop me a line if you're interested in abandoned places in the UP. I used to spend my summers up there when I was growing up, and would visit some abandoned mine sites. Even then the settlements around the closed mines had mostly either been absorbed by existing towns or had been reclaimed by the forest, but there were a few foundations and shells of buildings here and there. I'd be interested to see what you find, and can do some research to see if there's anything I can direct you towards.

BTW, the UP is gorgeous for camping, but starts getting crazy with mosquitoes and blackflies around now.
